Nam leads Việt Nam at Davis Cup event

HÀ NỘI -- Lý Hoàng Nam will lead Việt Nam in the second round of the Davis Cup’s Group II Asia-Oceania against Thailand on July  一 五- 一 七 in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

Việt Nam won their first round tie against Indonesia  三- 二 and Thailand defeated Sri Lanka  三- 二.

Apart from world No  八 七 二 seed Nam, the Vietnamese team includes national champion Phạm Minh Tuấn, runner-up Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên and young star Nguyễn Đắc Tiến, who just won a U 一 八 ITF title last month.

Việt Nam are world No  六0 while Thailand are world No  四 六.

The host nation called up Pruchya Asarow, No  八 一 二, and Puriwat Chatpatcharoen, No  八 一 三, to complete in the single matches, along with twins Sanchai Ratiwatana and Sonchat Ratiwatana, who rank No  一0 七 in the men’s doubles ranking.

The two nations have met four times and each team has won twice.

The Việt Nam team, under captain Trương Quốc Bảo, will arrive in Nonthaburi on July  九. They have some days scheduled for practice before battling with the hosts.

The winner will advance to the final where they will compete against the winner of the match between the Philippines and Chinese Taipei.

The two finalists will also seal their berths to play in Group I next year. – VNS
